Bitcoin History Repeats in Miniature: Inside BC2 and Its BCH2 Fork

BC2 — BitcoinII

BC2 launched in 2025 as a completely new blockchain with its own genesis block. It is not a fork of Bitcoin and gives holders no claim on actual BTC. The official website is bitcoin-ii.org

Its creator described it as an attempt to recreate the conditions of Bitcoin’s early years:

  • SHA-256 proof-of-work
  • Approximately 10-minute target block time
  • 50 BC2 initial block reward
  • Halving every 210,000 blocks
  • Claimed maximum supply of 21 million
  • No inherited Bitcoin balances
  • Based on Bitcoin Core 27
  • Initially low mining difficulty

The basic pitch is: “What if people had another opportunity to participate in something resembling Bitcoin’s 2009 launch?” The developer discussed the launch publicly in an altcoin announcement on Bitcointalk in July, 2025.

BC2 currently has a very small market capitalization and limited exchange support. CoinGecko shows NonKYC.io as its most active market, although market data can change quickly. It also trades on CoinEx.

BCH2 — Bitcoin Cash II

BCH2 is a newer chain created by forking BC2 at BC2 block 53,200 during 2026. The official website is bch2.org

It retained the BC2 transaction history through that block but switched to rules modeled on Bitcoin Cash, including:

  • SHA-256 proof-of-work
  • 32 MB blocks
  • ASERT difficulty adjustment
  • CashAddr addresses beginning with bitcoincashii:
  • Schnorr signatures and newer BCH protocol features
  • 50 BCH2 initial block reward
  • Claimed 21-million maximum supply
  • No stated premine, ICO or developer tax

Anyone controlling BC2 at block 53,200 should control an equal amount of BCH2 on the forked chain. BC2 received after that does not create BCH2.

Interesting projects but I would treat both as highly speculative micro-cap projects.

  • Neither is Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, nor an officially recognized continuation of either.
  • The names can easily create confusion with BTC, BCH and an older unrelated 2018 project called Bitcoin 2 (BTC2).
  • Exchange liquidity is limited, so displayed prices may not represent what someone could sell a meaningful amount for.
  • Network security is far below Bitcoin’s. A SHA-256 chain with little sustained hashpower can be vulnerable to reorganizations or concentrated mining.
  • Most available information originates with the projects, associated services or promotional posts. There is very little independent reporting.
  • CoinMarketCap has displayed an apparently incorrect BC2 maximum supply of 2.1 million, while the project and CoinGecko say 21 million. That is probably a data-entry problem, but it shows why the market listings need verification.
  • BCH2’s market is smaller still. CoinGecko recently showed only roughly $53,000 in market capitalization and about $10,000 in daily volume.

!important: claiming forked coins can expose the private keys controlling your BC2. The safer procedure is to move the BC2 to a completely new wallet first, wait for confirmation, and only then import the old keys into independently verified BCH2 software. Never enter a mnemonic seed phrase into a website promising forked coins without first carrying out your own due diligence.
